The Electric Vehicle Surge:

For last many decades, roads have been dominated by internal combustion Engine (ICE) in India, and dependency more on imported fossil fuels, but in recent years markets has witnessed that narrative is rapidly changing. • Policy drives from govt. initiates like incentivize for driving EV demand, PLI schemes for Advanced Chemistry Cells (ACC) which helps local battery manufacturer to bring down cost.
• Aims to install over 1.3 million charging station by 2030 in India.
• Forecasted battery prices fell below $100 per kWh globally, will make default choice for consumer due to upfront cost of EVs will achieve parity with petrol/diesel.
Solar PV: The Primary Engine of Capacity
India's solar has touched new levels—from megawatts to gigawatts. Renewable capacity has surged up to 250 GW with solar leading the charge.
Currently more than 10 million households use solar on their rooftops, turning residential roofs into micro-power plants and reducing the burden on the grid.
Compared to coal, solar-based power is cheaper—tariffs stabilizing between Rs. 2.5 to Rs. 2.8 per unit.
BESS: The "Glue" That Stabilizes the Grid
The biggest challenge witnessed over the years in solar is the sunset problem. Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) has emerged as the solution to make renewable power "Round-the-clock".
BESS capacity is expected to jump from 200 MWh now to a massive 5 GWh by the end of 2026.

• Reduces the need for expensive, polluting "Peaker" coal demands.
• Provides frequency regulation to prevent blackouts.
• Falling lithium-ion and sodium-ion prices make storage commercially viable.
In short: if frequency falls below 50 Hz, BESS instantly injects power into the grid to bring the heartbeat back to 50 Hz; and if frequency rises (say, if everyone suddenly switches off the AC), BESS instantly absorbs the excess.
Electric Vehicles: The Mobile Storage Revolution
• Electric two-wheelers now account for over 20% of new registrations in major cities.
• 65+ cities have witnessed over 10,000 electric buses operational—reducing the nation's crude oil import bill.
• V2G (Vehicle to Grid)—now your car helps the city. During the heatwave in Delhi, when every AC turns on and the grid struggles, 1,000 EVs plugged in can push power back into the city grid to prevent blackout. India Smart Grid Forum in collaboration with Tata Power DDL and BSES has successfully demonstrated the use of EV fleets as virtual power plants.
• V2H (Vehicle to Home)—power cut at night? Your car battery kicks in to power your lights, fans, fridge. A standard EV battery (60 kWh) can power a typical Indian home for 3 to 4 days.
• V2B (Vehicle to Business)—your car can help the office. Bangalore tech parks use EVs to lower their electricity bill during peak hours.
They are even testing how fleets of e-buses and taxis can act as giant virtual power plants to save the grid from failing during peak summer.
Revenue Model for the Owner
Monetization for users: you can
earn while parking, in these pilots, you can set up your app to “keep my car at
80% charge for my morning drive, but the grid can use the other 20% right now”.
Payoff: As of 2026 fleet owner can earn between 8000 to 12000 per
month just being by plugged in.
